"Today, a short film about the well-known Yucatecan legend premieres at the Museum of the Mayan World.
One of the most renowned legends of Yucatán comes to the big screen today, thanks to Luis Quijano, director of the short film "Caminante, Caminante: The Legend of the Huay Chivo." With free admission, the short film will debut at the Salamayamax theater in the Museum of the Mayan World at 7:30 PM. After the screening, there will be a discussion with director Luis Quijano, accompanied by actress Lili Gore.
The short film explores the legend of the strange monster that is told in locations within the state. The director shared with La Jornada Maya that during a mission over Easter, locals told him the story, sparking his interest in the subject, as reported by journalist Abraham Bote. Quijano explained that the audiovisual project narrates the story of two Yucatecan missionaries visiting a village in Yucatán where the Huay Chivo resides. "The villagers tell them the legend, warning them to show respect or face consequences. It is then that the two women have an encounter with this mythical being," he recounted."
